Luehdorfia puziloi - this lovely female (both photos showing the same specimen) was laying a cluster of eggs under the leaf of Asiasarum sieboldii for a good 20 min. I saw her at one of the only few localities where both L. puziloi and L. japonica are found side by side. Well, it is certainly possible to see both there on the same day but this time
I only saw one L. japonica (Leech, 1889). (and failed to get any decent shot) while I saw quite a few L. puziloi.
The last time I was there, I saw just the one butterfly and it was actually a hybrid between the two species (rare but not unknown).
I have a sneaky feeling this one also has a bit of L. japonica blood in it too. Nagano, Japan 15 May 2022.
