At de fleste
natsværmere kan høre flagermus ekkolokation/
biologisk sonar er kendt, hvor de fleste ugler, Noctuidae lader sig falde ned som døde
blade når de høre flagermus.
At flere tigerspinder, Erebidae klikker tilbage advarsels lyde
som værn imod flagermus opdagede man i 2016.
Og at aftensværmere, Sphingidae jammer flagermus lyd opdagede man
for nyligt.
Men at flere spindere som natpåfugleøjer, Saturniidae ved deres skæl's form og
struktur på vinger og krop skaber et akustisk
kamuflage /stealth som værn imod flagermus. Det
var da spændende nyt.Forskere som Thomas Neil fra University of Bristol i UK
studerer, hvordan natsværmere har udviklet
passive forsvar over millioner af år for at
modstå deres primære rovdyr flagermus.
